Stress as a disease of our time!

"Stress is the disease of our time" says the doctor and psychologist Rüdiger Dahlke. Stress not only contributes to the development of numerous diseases, but is one of the main causes in the development of these. From physical illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal diseases or immune deficiency, to mental illnesses such as anxiety, sleep disorders and depression, stress is one of the main causes in Germany.

Why are preventive measures, and a healthy way of coping with stress, so important?

Taking preventive measures and healthy stress management are of great importance. They bring numerous positive effects.

Preventive measures and healthy stress management strategies can strengthen both physical and mental health and reduce the risk of disease. Both the risk of physical illness can be reduced, as well as mental illness, including anxiety disorders, depression or burnout.
Several studies including the American Psychological Association (APA) study of 2012 confirmed, that long-term stress shortens telomeres, which are protective caps at the ends of our chromosomes. These telomeres protect chromosomes from aging, and shortening telomeres has numerous negative effects on the human body. Shortening telomeres leads to faster aging of cells, increased risk of some diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, weakening of the immune system, and can even have neurological effects such as memory problems and even dementia.

In addition to numerous illnesses, stress also often leads to exhaustion and fatigue and negatively affects concentration. Dealing with stress in a healthy way can counteract concentration difficulties, physical and mental exhaustion and increase energy and productivity.

Prevention course for healthy stress management through mindfulness and positive emotions

The LUMEUS prevention course "Healthy stress management through mindfulness and positive emotions - The 8-week online training" is designed to prevent stress, anxiety and inner turmoil. It consists of an emotional training based on MBSR (Mindfulness-based stress reduction) and positive psychology. MBSR is based on several methods of mindfulness, as well as self-awareness, to specifically re-evaluate situations and learn how to deal with stress in a healthy way.

In addition, insights from positive psychology are practically applied through spoken visualizations with music specially composed for the tracks and recorded by symphony orchestras. Through the combination of words and music, positive emotions are generated and, with the help of these, the causes of numerous mental problems stored in the subconscious are reached and worked on. In this way, old patterns of thinking and behavior can be dissolved, and resilience and the immune system can be strengthened.

The prevention course to reduce stress goes for 8 weeks and consists of 8 units with 2 lessons each. In addition to the audio tracks and exercises, text seminars, as well as documents for further understanding and implementation of the course complement the units.
